The Museum is offering FREE admission all day, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., on Monday, October 28, 2024, in honor of National Immigrants Day.

PLUS, join us at Bloomington Public Library from 5:30 to 7:00 p.m. for an evening of learning, sharing, and celebrating McLean County's immigrant communities. This free event includes a buffet of homemade grain-based snacks, a presentation by visiting designer Alberto Rigau*, and opportunities to contribute a few personal stitches to Narrative Threads: A Community Quilt Project made possible by Illinois Art Station, the McLean County Museum of History, and Prairie Pride Coalition.

This communal, discursive culinary experience on National Immigrants Day is an extension of the Breaking Bread in McLean County program series originally presented by the McLean County Museum of History, Design Streak of Illinois State University, BN Welcoming, Not In Our Town, and The Immigration Project in 2021.

We are thrilled for this annual event on National Immigrants Day to be made available to all members of the public for the first time thanks to an accessible and inviting location such as BPL. We can't wait to break bread together again!

This year’s event is made possible by the McLean County Museum of History, BN Welcoming, The Immigration Project, Not In Our Town, Illinois State University, Illinois Art Station, and Bloomington Public Library. Illinois State University is dedicated to a culture of sustainability throughout its campus and community. In an effort to reduce single-use plastic – which is both harmful to people and our planet - we extend a thank you to the ISU Office of Sustainability for donating compostable products to this event.

*Alberto Rigau is the founder of Estudio Interlínea in San Juan, Puerto Rico. "The studio’s practice focuses on creating multidisciplinary projects for a wide-range of clients, from startups to corporations and cultural institutions. The work has been awarded, published, and exhibited locally and abroad. Rigau currently volunteers as a board member in AIGA’s Design Educators Committee (DEC), collaborating with a select group of educators in crafting research opportunities, conferences, and services for the larger academic design discipline."
