Futures in History Camp 2024 is coming! This 5-day camp experience includes facilitation by Museum staff and other experts, all materials needed for hands-on learning, meals and snacks, fun, and more! Campers will enjoy hands-on experiences in architecture, archaeology, civics, museum studies, and preservation. Registration for Futures in History Camp is open to any area campers entering 5th, 6th, and 7th grades who are eager to explore the many futures a career in history can offer.

New this summer, the McLean County Museum of History is also hosting two Futures in History Mini-Camps: Adventurous Archaeologists and Curious Curators. Each camp will focus on a single topic and consist of two half-day sessions.

Futures in History: Adventurous Archaeologists

Come get your hands dirty and dig up some fun! During this Mini-Camp, participants will spend their first day learning about archaeology’s best practices and doing their own archaeological dig. On the second day, participants will learn how artifacts are studied after being found and how to find information within material culture.

Adventurous Archaeologists will take place Tuesday, July 16th and Thursday, July 18th from 8:30 AM to12:30 PM. Register here for Adventurous Archaeologists.

Futures in History: Curious Curators

Learn about museums from the professionals at the McLean County Museum of History! On day one, participants will get a behind the scenes look at our museum, collections, and galleries. On day two, participants will learn how to write an object label and create a display. The camp will finish with a very special Gallery Opening, designed by our campers and hosted at Hangar Art Gallery.

Information for prospective FiHC Families

Futures in History Camp will operate according to specifications and protocols recommended by the State of Illinois and adhere to guidance provided by the IDPH, CDC, and ISBE. Specific health and safety protocols for FiHC 2024 will be determined as camp dates near.

At this time, masks are recommended but not required for all Museum programs and all participants are still asked to self-certify that they are free of the following symptoms:

  • Fever (100.4 or higher), new onset of moderate to severe headache, shortness of breath, new cough, sore throat, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain from unknown cause, new congestion/runny nose, new loss of sense of taste or smell, nausea, fatigue from unknown cause, muscle or body aches.

Camp Costs

Futures in History Camp 2024 has a registration fee of $300 per camper. Our Futures in History Mini Camps each have a $75 registration fee. Households get a discounted price for each additional camper they register.

If your household income is less than $36,000 a year, your camper(s) will qualify for a scholarship to waive the registration fee.
