Listen to the audio on WGLT's website here

McHistory goes back in time to explore big moments and small stories from McLean County history. McHistory episodes can be heard periodically on WGLT's Sound Ideas.

The Tri-State Tornado of 1925 was the deadliest twister the country has ever seen, even to this day. The tornado traveled 219 miles from Missouri to Illinois to Indiana, leaving a trail of destruction.

At this time, Adlai E. Stevenson II was working with the family newspaper, The Daily Pantagraph (now known as The Pantagraph) as a reporter. He was sent downstate to one of the hardest hit places: Murphysboro, Illinois.

During this episode of McHistory, you'll hear Stevenson’s account of the Tri-State Tornado.

McHistory is a co-production of WGLT and the McLean County Museum of History.
