Emmett – Scharf Electric Co. opened for business on April 20, 1922 with Fred Emmett as the electrical manager and Ed Scharf the bookkeeper. They ran a successful business at 317 N. Center Street, Bloomington, IL and were partners until Emmett’s death in 1939. In 1963 Ed Scharf sold the business to their foreman electrician, Pierce George Johnston. George Johnston and his wife Ruth ran the business until his death in 1972. His sons, George Jr. and Richard, took over the business and operate it today (2018).
The collection includes a copy of the original partnership agreement, various business cards, electrical certification tags, business brochures and advertisements, correspondence, invoices, bills, canceled checks and an agreement with State Farm.
